Turning Industry 5.0 from Concept to Action
About the webinar
The webinar co-organised by PROSPECTS 5.0 project with BRIDGES 5.0/EUWIN projects explored how organisations can turn the broad ambitions of Industry 5.0 into practical decisions and actions.
Presenters Anna Zmiievska and Simona Aceto from the PROSPECTS 5.0 project, together with Giorgos Metaxiotis from AETHON, introduced a digital self-assessment platform designed to help companies, business support organisations and public agencies identify strengths, gaps and priorities for action.
The webinar demonstrated how a structured assessment can provide organisations with a starting point for understanding their current position and planning further steps towards more human-centric, sustainable and resilient transformation.
The PROSPECTS 5.0 self-assessment approach
The PROSPECTS 5.0 self-assessment tool is based on a research-based framework and has been tested with 14 industrial use cases across different sectors and company sizes.
The assessment focuses on three connected Industry 5.0 pillars:
- Human-centricity
- Environmental sustainability
- Industrial resilience
Users provide evidence against a structured set of indicators covering areas such as employee training, wellbeing and participation, energy use, circular product design, supply-chain risk and cybersecurity.
The assessment also allows users to indicate when information is “not measured”. This can help reveal blind spots and identify areas where better monitoring or employee consultation may be needed.
From assessment results to action
On completion of the assessment, organisations receive two complementary views:
- an alignment score, showing how strongly Industry 5.0 is reflected in the organisation’s strategy;
- an implementation score, showing how far Industry 5.0 is embedded in practice.
Results are broken down by Industry 5.0 pillar and compared with sector peers.
The project team is also developing an embedded assistant to explain indicators and methodology, connect users with relevant project evidence and suggest actionable next steps.
The assessment is intended as a starting point for further action, rather than a substitute for deeper diagnosis, consultancy or organisational dialogue.
Discussion and key insights
The discussion explored how employee voice and participation can be reflected when new technologies are introduced. Participants raised questions about the role of direct employee participation, works councils and trade unions.
The presenters referred to indicators addressing representative decision-making and employee surveys, while also recognising the scope to make participation and trust more explicit.
Participants also discussed the weighting of assessment indicators. Core indicators account for 70% of the score, while 30% is assigned to context-specific indicators.
The discussion highlighted the importance of combining measurable evidence with meaningful worker involvement and follow-up action when assessing progress towards Industry 5.0.
Moving beyond a one-off assessment
PROSPECTS 5.0 is developing complementary training modules, case examples and guidance for companies, intermediaries and policymakers.
Together, these resources are intended to help organisations move from an initial assessment towards a staged transition plan — prioritising improvements, setting timelines and repeating the assessment to track progress.
