Both consulting and engineering are crucial sectors for Industry 5.0. Through the consulting of various companies across different sectors, a comprehensive knowledge base is required. The expertise gathered is adopted by different companies and put into action. It becomes significantly important when ideas from Industry 5.0 are incorporated and implemented in projects. Challenges such as the demand for sustainable practices, the need for rapid adaptation to digital transformation, and the pressure to deliver increasingly human-centric solutions, as well as environmental measures, can thus be addressed. Companies in the consulting sector can make a substantial contribution in this regard. However, difficulties arise in implementing the proposed measures, as the consulting company remains the key decision-making entity.

Sustainability has become a central element of Industry 5.0, especially as stakeholders demand greater responsibility in addressing environmental issues. Engineering providers are leading the way by using eco-friendly materials and processes in project development and offering energy efficiency consultations. For example, life cycle assessments, greenhouse gas balances, and energy management systems are being implemented in various projects. This enables the proposal of improvements to products and processes, thereby reducing the carbon footprint. By doing so, companies can ensure that their clients take a step towards climate neutrality when implementing sustainable operational practices. Another aspect that can be achieved through data analysis is the transition to circular economy models, where resources are reused, and waste is minimized. A concrete example of this is a project where an initial analysis of a company’s current operations is conducted, focusing on processes and potential weaknesses. Following this, energy efficiency is improved through load management, peak shifting, and investments in renewable energy or the replacement of old machinery to minimize the CO₂ footprint.

As an engineering provider and management consultant, there is a growing commitment to placing people at the forefront, aligning with the Industry 5.0 approach, which emphasizes human-centric values. The traditional focus on cost efficiency and technological superiority is now being expanded to emphasize the well-being and empowerment of people, both within organizations and in the broader community. For instance, the integration of ergonomic designs into infrastructure projects ensure that workspaces are optimized for human comfort and productivity. Similarly, as management consultants try to focus on change of management strategies that prioritize employee wellbeing during technological transitions, particularly in the implementation of AI, automation, and advanced analytics. Another concrete example to ensure the further development of the human-centric approach is the organization of two annual meetings to monitor progress and introduce new ideas.

To address resilience, there is an increasing focus on adapting to disruptions while maintaining continuous operations. This means mastering a variety of tasks in both consulting and engineering, such as using greener materials, improving energy efficiency, and optimizing processes. External factors like climate change, economic stability, security, and many others must also be considered. This begins with project planning and extends to post-project support. Efforts to implement resilient systems, risk management, training, and awareness-raising aim to meet these challenges and successfully implement the necessary measures.

Looking to the future, the engineering and management consulting industry will continue to change under the principles of Industry 5.0. Human-centred design, green practices and resilience will become increasingly important, and companies will need to adapt and collaborate to remain competitive in a rapidly changing market. For stakeholders, the key to success will be to invest in advanced green technologies and minimize carbon footprints, while embracing humane and resilient practices. By embracing these innovations, the industry can do much to help not only customers, but society.
